Health

• Plan to meet the South African Mine Health and Safety Council's targets on NIHL and silicosis. These targets are:
  • OLD: by 2008, 95% of all silica exposure measurements will be below the occupational exposure limit of 0,1mg/m3; and by 2013, no new cases of silicosis will occur, in previously unexposed employees.
  • NIHL: by 2013, noise emissions of all equipment will be below 110dBA; and by 2008, no deterioration in hearing greater then 10% will occur in noise-exposed employees.
• TB: to build on 2005’s success and further drive down the TB incidence in the South African region.
