As a member of the JSE Socially Responsible Investment (SRI), AngloGold Ashanti for two consecutive years, achieved “best performer category” in 2010 and 2011.. In 2012 the JSE SRI Index Advisory Committee took a decision to exclude all mining companies from this category given the labour relations issues that impacted the mining sector in South Africa in the latter part of the year.
The JSE SRI is a developed set of criteria that measures the triple bottom line performance of companies in the FTSE/ JSE All Share Index, with the aim of compiling an Index to ensure listed companies pass the criteria requirements.
The JSE SRI also offers an aspirational sustainability benchmark that recognises listed companies incorporating sustainability principles into their everyday business practices and serves as a tool for investors to assess companies on a broader base.
The first SRI Index was launched by the JSE in May 2004 to recognise the strides listed companies are making in this regard. Reviews take place annually during the second half of each year, with results usually announced at the end of November each year and can be viewed at
