Exploration at AngloGold Ashanti has two key high level objectives to create significant value for the company:
1. Greenfields Exploration aims to make large, high-value gold discoveries leading directly to new mines.
2. Brownfields Exploration focuses on delivering value through incremental additions to reserves in existing mines as well as new discoveries in defined areas around existing operations.
AngloGold Ashanti’s Greenfields exploration team is recognised as the industry’s most successful in Mineral Resource discovery by SNL*, a leading industry research group. The team has a proven track record that includes the discovery of world-class ore bodies In Colombia at La Colosa, Gramalote, and Nuevo Chaquiro; and in Australia at Tropicana.
These discoveries are attributed to our committed and professional team of explorationists working on a portfolio of highly prospective and strategic ground holdings. Greenfields Exploration provides a pipeline of high-quality and rigorously prioritised exploration projects, which in turn lead towards discovery of new deposits and mines.
AngloGold Ashanti continues to actively drive the creation of value by growing its major asset, namely its Mineral Resource and Ore Reserve. This is based on a well-defined and effective brownfields exploration programme about existing operations, innovation in geological modelling and mine planning, and continual optimisation of its asset portfolio.
