Talent management

Here at AngloGold Ashanti we recognise that people are the business ….. our business is people, and in order for us to ensure our sustainability, both now and in the future, we focus on developing our employees in order for them to reach their maximum capability. The global nature of our business means that employees can be offered career development opportunities across countries and cultures, and selected employees are afforded international exposure during their careers with AngloGold Ashanti.

Lifelong learning

As part of our strategy to develop and retain our employees, we offer several exciting company-sponsored development opportunities:

  • The Intermediate Management Development Programme (IMDP): targets junior managers and aims to equip them with basic management and leadership skills. This programme is offered in partnership with the prestigious Graduate School of Business at the University of Cape Town. This course leads to an Associate in Management Practice Certificate.
  • The Management Development Programme (MDP): targets middle to senior managers and aims to equip them with essential business knowledge, with a focus on strategic functions and effectiveness issues. This programme is offered in partnership with the Graduate School of Business at the University of Cape Town, and potentially provides access to further studies such as an M.Com in Management. The MDP leads to a Post-Graduate Diploma in Management.
  • Executive Development: The individual development needs of senior managers are addressed by affording them the opportunity to participate in programmes at leading international business schools, such as the Graduate School of Business at the University of Cape Town, and other business schools from around the world.
  • The Masters of Business Administration (MBA): is offered in exceptional cases to senior managers whose career development plans require of them to obtain an MBA in order to fulfil the accountabilities of their roles.
  • Customised Training Programmes: We fully support the continued technical development of our employees, and encourage participation in a range of programmes from in-house courses to post-graduate studies. In addition, we have a part-time study assistance programme, from which financial assistance is provided to employees who wish to further their academic qualifications.

Graduate Recruitment

Generally, our graduate recruits commence their employment with AngloGold Ashanti as "Management Trainees". Disciplines such as Engineering, Metallurgy, Finance and Human Resources all have customised learner-paced training programmes. The training mostly occurs on-the-job, but there is a substantial supplement of formal education in the form of technical and managerial courses. Depending on the discipline, completion of a phase could require practical exposure, the completion of a project or even the passing of an exam.

We are proud of our employees and believe their development is always a sound investment, and beneficial to employees and company alike.
